Remembering the 1947 Mumbles Lifeboat Disaster

Remembering the 1947 Mumbles Lifeboat Disaster

There was a packed Church for the special Service to Commemorate the 70th anniversary of the 1947 Mumbles Lifeboat disaster on Sunday 23rd April. Representatives from civic life joined parishioners, villagers and the crew of the Lifeboat to remember the events of seven decades ago. We were also privileged to be joined by the children and families of the crew who lost their lives on the Lifeboat, 'Edward Prince of Wales'.

The music was led by the Church Choir, which sang Henryk GOrecki's moving anthem, 'Totus tuus'.

The preacher was Lord Oystermouth, who spoke in his address about the inspirational courage of the men of Mumbles who sacrificed their lives attempting to save others.
