The Cambrian newspaper on 25 August 1865 records the launch of the new iron screw-steamer, the Zeta, for Henry Bath and Son of Swansea. An advert followed on 26 April 1867 for passengers under Capt. T.H.Walters. The Zeta was a fully rigged barque with auxilliary steam power. She sailed on May 20th for Chile, Valpariso and Lima. Zeta was the first steam ship to be built with a Corliss Marine Engine. She consumed 10 tons of coal a day. The painting shows the Bath family bidding 'bon voyage' to the Zeta.
