Swansea Night Shelter - 2017

Swansea Night Shelter - 2017

We have already had quite a lot of people who have expressed an

interest in helping to run the Night Shelter for the homeless on Tuesday

evenings from the beginning of January to the end of February next year.

We will need volunteers to cover three shifts, 7pm-10pm [evenings], 10pm-6am [nights] and 6pm-9am [mornings]. We also need cooks [with food hygiene certificates] and some volunteers who wouldn't mind cleaning the kitchen and toilets [the most challenging job of all!]

Last year well over thirty people, always referred to as our 'guests', were taken off the streets and found accommodation by the project. Though it's challenging work it's also hugely enjoyable and rewarding.

There are a number of peripheral jobs each week - opening up and taking in the bedding on Tuesday morning, taking the rubbish for recycling away each week, doing basic shopping, delivering bedding to the next venue etc. which could be done by volunteers who don't want to actually be involved in the sessions - and who do not need to have done the training.

There will be a training session at 7.30pm on Tuesday 14th November in the Churchrooms. Another training session will be held at 7.30pm on Tuesday 5th December at the United Church, Sketty.

Further details from the Tuesday evening Co-ordinator April Beynon          3661 101 or the
Vicar [369971]. If we have enough volunteers it means that we are only on duty every three or four weeks - which is much easier to sign up for. Please think about joining us and coming along to the training session.
